Suk11, Bangkok – a hostel renovated from an old style condominium

Suk 11 Hostel is on 1/13 Sukhumvit 11, Bangkok 10110, Thailand; about 100 steps away from Nana BTS, and about a few hundreds of steps more to the Terminal 21 Sukhumvit BTS Station.

As I observed, Suk 11 was renovated from an old-style condominium: a long row of small, consecutive apartments with separate stairs to lead to other apartments, hidden in an alley. The top of the alley is used as a restaurant serving the tourists who are staying at Suk 11. The entrance of Suk 11 is like the path to the stairs of a dormitory. The rooms are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the entire block. The apartments on the ground floor of the block are all shops.

Room rates are quite low. We rented a room for 2 people with a private toilet at the price of about 550,000 VND/ night. If you travel in a group or alone and want to save money, you can stay in a dorm whose price is even cheaper. By staying in a dorm, you can make new friends, however, you have to use a shared toilet which is a bit inconvenient. If an indiscreet guest shares the same dorm with you, you will have to wait long. You should consider that carefully and then decide.

Although the price is affordable, the service of Suk 11 is very good. There are few employees but everyone is gentle and enthusiastic. The space is designed in Japanese style, everything, from the walls, columns, stairs, paths to tables and chairs, is made of dark-colored-wood. The common room on the ground floor presents lovely décor items, providing an hourly desktop with a small reminder that each person should only use it for a while so that others could also use it, a cupboard to sell beverages (if anyone is thirsty, they can come to pick a drink and “pay” for the glass jar lying nearby), and free wifi.

The Sukhumvit area is also a busy shopping area, so when you step out the door, you will see many shops from popular to luxurious. From the entrance of Suk 11 restaurant, go U-shaped to the other end, in the evening, there is a cute bar with crazy design. Seven-Eleven – a convenience store chain that is open 24 hours – is also nearby so if you need to buy any item or recharge your phone, you won’t have to go far. Along the way to the train station, there are many trolleys selling snacks. Mentioning Thai snacks, as you know, I don’t need to give any more compliments.
