Hey honey, how to confidently speak in front of a crowd?

Do you remember the topic I shared earlier about personal branding? The conclusion of that post shows that to build a personal brand, you need to be beautiful from the inside. Therefore, your confidence in front of a crowd should also come from within. It’s like building a house, we need a strong foundation. Your foundation is your strengths – the things you feel knowledgeable enough, confident, and comfortable to share with others.

So, first of all, you should DETERMINE YOUR STRENGTHS to find the right topic for public speaking: What topics you can always talk about, but there’s always a lot to explore deeply. The topics related to the topic of your strengths?

RESEARCH, COLLECT DATA or more closely speaking, searching information about the topic of the conversation, maybe this process will open up new perspectives.

IMAGINE about the upcoming conversation to see what outfit you are going to wear, how you step up to greet everyone, how to start the conversation, try asking some questions related to the topic that everyone might ask, in case you can’t answer, how you will react. Imagination is a way of preparing, giving you a clearer picture of what’s going to happen.

When you have prepared, you need to PRACTICE. Not everyone is born to speak nicely and fluently, but this ability can be formed through practice. Adjust the tone and volume of the voice so that it is easy to hear, remove the filler words “um”, “ah” to make the talk more fluent (but sometimes adding a little at the right time, at the right place also helps create a pause for the conversation), whether you stand or sit, remember to straighten your back, do not show your arms and legs too much, remember to change the position of your gaze between the 3 points: middle – left – right of the stands to respect the audiences.

Another keyword that you should memorize is BE SINCERE. Say what you know, if you do not know something, you should listen, or ask questions to explore the problem together, and to find the answer. Sincerity is what touches other people’s hearts, not the massive mass of information, knowledge, and theories that everyone can easily find in the 4.0 era.

Only with sincerity can you have a CONFIDENT LOOK, right?

Besides speaking, you also need to LISTEN with all your heart. Listening to others’ opinions opens new doors in your mind.

And remember, EVERYONE HAS THEIR FIRST TIMES. For many other things, we only have one time, but for public speaking, allow yourself to have first times because this thing takes a lot of practice for one to gradually learn from experience.

One of the first times I was the MC who hosted a night of pop music in a small cafe, I was confused and forgot the name of the composer. A musician reminded me of the name of the composer, but he was wrong about that. An audience sitting near the stage frowned. I felt that something was wrong, so while the singer was singing, I hurriedly took the phone to search for information. It turned out that I was wrong. Oh my god, I was so confused at that time, I turned to ask my co-host that night because he had more experience and I just joined in for fun: should I correct it later? He said it was okay, the audience who listened to music probably wouldn’t notice that the MC was wrong, and if they know that, they would understand. I listened to him to let go of that mistake, and until 10 years later, at this moment, I still remember that. That small mistake that day helped me to be more careful every time I was about to say something.

At the first times, you can be nervous, you can say not well, you may have mistaken information, you may be embarrassed, you can remember forever a small mistake you made there; But all will help you to be stronger and more mature.
