Great books on food

For foodies and culinary enthusiasts, collecting books and culinary magazines can be more than just a hobby and sometimes can be addictive. I will confess that I am one of those “addicts”. Almost every time I go to a bookstore, I reach the culinary bookshelf to see if there is any new book; when surfing the web, if I see any book that looks good, I will order it right away; when traveling somewhere, I like to find some good cookbooks there (though it’s maybe in other languages, as long as there are many interesting dishes).

Once I went to my friend’s house, seeing her flipping through her favorite cookbook, looking for the recipe for a salad. The book is covered with stickers with her own notes. It may be a few adjustments to the recipe to suit her personal taste. It may be a few things to keep in mind when cooking that dish. At that time I thought, if I were the author of the book, knowing this, I would be very happy.

I don’t know if many people are using cookbooks that way. To me, those books are an endless source of inspiration. I don’t usually follow the exact recipes (except for cakes), but I like to look at the photos of food in cookbooks to find new ideas for my upcoming dishes.

For example, the other day I wanted to cook soup but there were only tomatoes and straw mushrooms in my fridge, I could not think of any new way to cook, so I turned to a page in the book that I once translated and I found the suggestion for a clear soup with butter. The other day, I read a book to try to combine the ingredients differently from my daily routine.

Because they are a source of inspiration, I always focus on both the form and the content of every book I purchase. Friends who come to my house also like to stop for a while at the shelves full of cookbooks and culinary magazines. People with similar interests will stay a little longer, sometimes asking me for a pot of tea to chill on their own and I’m always happy to serve.

If I were to mention the books I love, I would not stop until the next morning. Therefore, I will pick a few to recommend to you to read!

? Hoo Hey How – Eat and love (Chuong Dang): The most recent book I read, and it is still leaving me many emotions for now. If I have a chance to write culinary books, I would love to write such a book – each dish is associated with a story, a person, or a memory. Standing up, going to the kitchen, cooking a delicious dish are a gentle pleasure though it’s a sophisticated dish or just simple cooking. The other night, putting down my book, I suddenly wanted to make a cup of hot egg chocolate according to the instruction in the book. I didn’t follow the exact recipe, but followed my inspiration more, and found out that my chocolate orange bar fit perfectly with this beverage!

? 80 days of eating around the world (Phan Anh): This is a book I believe that all children or adults both love. A selection of delicious food from many countries with lovely pictures and paintings!!!! Any family with a small child can read this book and try to cook, which I guess would be very fun!

? The smell of the kitchen (Vu Anh Nguyet): The book of the big sister in the baking field must be of great quality, right?! I believe that every cake that appears in a book is a beautiful result of the long process of summarizing the author’s experience. This book is very useful for those who love the aroma of the hot cakes from the oven. The smell of love.

? Salty, fat, sour, hot (Samin Nosrat): This book is very thick and full of the principles of good cooking. I am a goldfish person who will forget right after reading, but I still love it because the book helps me to understand why I should do this but not that, so that a mind-wandering person like me will be less confused ?

? The best vegetarian dish (Audrey Cosson): We often come across so many familiar Asian vegetarian dishes that sometimes we forget that Western cuisine also has many delicious European vegetarian dishes. Those who often eat vegetarian dishes should definitely buy this book. You will have more choices for your meals.

? Japanese noodles – Ramen, Soba, Udon (Laurie Kie): The name says it all! This book is for those who like to eat Japanese noodles but sometimes are confused about how to cook them well.

? Sushi and Grilled Skewers (Laurie Kie): Similar to the previous book, it helps us easily make Japanese-style sushi and grilled skewers.

? Loving dishes (many authors): This book is written by the Chinese authors. I don’t feel like their writing style very much, but the content is worth reading! A loving book about the memories associated with food. Thereby, the readers understand more about how to cook, especially some strange Chinese dishes that I have never eaten before.

? Herbal life energy (Rosalee de la Forêt): This is the book I think everyone should keep in the house. This book shows how to convert common ingredients into food and herbs to cure illnesses, and how to match the properties of each plant to one’s own needs. Isn’t it wonderful?!

Some other books in English I bought in Vietnam or were shipped from abroad:

? The Science of Cooking (Dr. Stuart Farrimond): This book is also packed with knowledge! All about the methods of preliminary processing and processing of raw materials in the best way.

? A cook’s journey to Japan (Sarah Marx Feldner): I read this book a lot because I find useful information about the ingredients for Japanese cooking and many other interesting and strange dishes!

? Little Kitchen Set (Rachel Khoo): I must say this is the first character who inspired me to cook. Back then, I watched some of her cooking series on Youtube and fell in love, and I managed to buy her books. If you search, you will know why I love that author! Her books are very beautiful. Like her clips, her books content is not just about food, it’s also about lifestyle.

? Mighty Spice: This is the gift I received from my friend on my birthday. The interesting part of this book is the knowledge of spice (ginger, turmeric, galangal, garlic, chili, etc.) and dishes that use one or a combination of spice types.

? Cookies (Williams-Sonoma): Aaaa this book is one of the first culinary books I bought. There are recipes for some basic types of cookies in this. I have followed those recipes many times, and most of them are successful, so I appreciate this book.

? Making Artisan Pasta (Aliza Green): If you like making spaghetti at home, you should look for this book! In the book, you will find all kinds of pasta and it’s great!

? The Kinfolk Table (Nathan Williams): This book is famous. I am sure that all art-related people know it! This book is very thick. It has stories about many people who work in art and share recipes for your pretty little parties. Nice book, very nice!!!!!

It’s enough for now. My hands are tired of typing ? If I am free, I will share more with you later!
