I am a hospitality graduate. I chose to study in this field because of a restaurant advertisement I saw on TV. At that time, the only thing I wished for was to work in a place filled with delicious food. I worked as an intern waiter at 3 outlets Opera, Square One, and Park Lounge. It was fun to do what I imagined before, but I wanted a more challenging job. Thus, after graduating, I did not apply to a large corporation but worked for a private enterprise. It was one of the top fine dining restaurants in Saigon 10 years ago. My boss was a woman both great at social work and cooking. After work, she often took us to good places to eat or took us to her house to cook some delicious dishes for us. Even the instant noodles that she cooked were incredibly delicious, and no matter how hard I tried, I could not find any way to make such delicious instant noodles. The first time I started my own business, I opened a cafe. The second time, I opened a kitchen utensil shop. On my blog, interwoven with some daily life stories are some writings about food. After many years, I still have a passion for food and always do F&B related work in one way or another.

My passion may be nourished from my family; my Grandma is a fairy in the kitchen with her magical dishes; my Parents are totally fond of food; in the past, despite difficult conditions, my Mom’s salary was always spent greatly to buy good food for my Father and me; at weekends, my maternal side always gather together to cook some dishes; and my cousin was the one to drag me around Saigon just because of a good dish. The dishes are not merely passing through the tongue, lying in the mouth, finely ground by the teeth, and floating into the esophagus; but they also have the power to lift my mood, helping to connect me with people. You can ask my lover, on the days I eat a bad dish, I will look bad, sad, upset until… I have a good dish. I also often give food to the people I love. Like my old boss, I like to take care of my colleagues with delicious meals. Anyone who has worked with us knows that.

This time, I started a new journey related to food. These days I spend less time online and am not able to reply to everyone’s messages promptly because I am busy setting up for my new business. I am happy to inform you that our homemade food store will be accepting orders from now on. We named this second brainchild, Goût Mặn. There is food and drink available for people with “goût mặn” – not those who like salty foods but who have subtle tastes. Because our dishes are homemade from clean ingredients, no coloring, no preservatives, and we use the natural flavor of the ingredients to make a harmonious whole. The food comes from our endless love for the kitchen and the meticulous attention of our hands. The busiest hands are probably Vy’s, who will take care mostly of the kitchen. Everyone has tried Vy’s cakes many times in our workshops, and as my friend commented, “if the cake is made by Vy, I am sure that the cake is delicious”. What about our salty dishes? Knowing that I was going to open a new business during the epidemic season, many people said that I was crazy. Although I know that it will be very difficult in the epidemic season, I believe that there are still many opportunities for those who are not afraid to try. After the epidemic season, if our business is operating well, it will be great. If not, this will still be a memorable experience for us! What is a good time to start something? What is even more important than the right time, the right place, and the right people, is the belief and the readiness of each person. I am the Small River, so whatever it is, I know, I just go with the flow. I feel pity for my lover that he has to follow my flow.
