Don’t Wait for an “Emotional Earthquake” to Know You Are in Love

…“Shall we go out for something tasty, love?” is his sweet temptation every time I have worked until my hair is a mess.
…Whenever I am too busy, he will offer, “Order something in for us, no need to cook rice!” And of course, whatever we eat, we are happy inside.
…On days I have classes to teach, he often helps me tidy the house, even cleaning my study (where I go online), and sometimes lights a scented candle too. Oh, and once he enthusiastically fertilised the plants, and the smell made me scream 😀
…Recently, as I sat at my computer getting ready for my writing class, he suddenly walked in holding a pair of slippers (the thin linen kind for wearing indoors), beaming: “I just bought these – pretty, aren’t they, love? Like a resort, right?” Then he knelt down and slipped them onto my feet to check the fit. It turned out that when he heard me complain about cold feet walking barefoot on the tiles, he had quietly ordered a few pairs.
…He will ask, “Beach, love?” whenever he notices I am showing signs of a “vitamin sea” deficiency.

Every tiny gesture like that makes my heart flutter. As time goes by, what stays with me when I think of this love is not the warm hugs, the sweet words, the disagreements and hard times we have overcome together, or the swoon-worthy romantic moments, but these seemingly trivial acts of care.

Yes, we do not need to wait for an “emotional earthquake” to know we are loving and loved. We need to know that we love and are loved every day, through each small flutter.
